One of the greatest gifts we are given by God is our children. At Crieve Hall Church of Christ, we are blessed to have a wonderful Children’s Ministry that focuses on these children as they learn about God, Jesus Christ His Son and His Holy Word. Led by our Children’s Ministry Coordinator, Mackenzie McMahan, and our dedicated Crieve Hall Children’s Ministry (CHCM) committee, the mission of the CHCM is to teach our children to know God, love Him and see His purpose for them throughout their lives.
Every Sunday morning and Wednesday evening during Bible class time, children ages 2 through 5th grade are provided well-planned, meaningful, and motivating experiences that are Biblically centered and engaging for all distinct types of learners. After a general assembly complete with singing, a focus on scripture and memory verses as well as a Bible story or lesson presented in a variety of fun and creative ways, the children are split up into various classes that focus on self-discovery and creation, the exploration of facts and Scripture as well as enjoyable games, activities, and experiences.
These methods, proven to aid in focus and retention, allow the learners to absorb and remember the Bible and how it applies to every aspect of their lives. With a three-year Biblically thorough curriculum, each child in the CHCM receives lessons covering the entire Bible at least two or three times during their years in the program.
The CHCM officially began in August of 2021 and has been blessed with enormous success and growth since day one. Our prayer is that it continues to be a place where children feel joy, comfort, and love as they grow closer to God through fun, exciting and inspiring experiences.
In the Creation Station students are given the opportunity to create, color, draw, and do a variety of skills/tasks that will help them review and re-tell the story in a creative outlet. The creation Station is set up to do the crafts as a keepsake or a craft to share with others. This breakout room was created to help those students who are more tactile and visual in their learning to retain the Biblical knowledge from the stories shared with them each week.
In the Exploration Station, students can revisit the story of the week more hands. Students will explore the story through more tactile means rather than just rereading or discussing the story. Whether it is creating Claymation videos or using the knowledge of the story to escape the room, students are reviewing and applying their Bible Knowledge in a meaningful manner. (This room is designed to especially help those learners that need more tactile, kinesthetic, and visual learning)
When students visit the Recreation Station, they can expect to be greeted with an energic review game of the story of the week. From Jeopardy to life-size board games to Bible- Basketball, students have an opportunity to review their knowledge in a fun, engaging, and enthusiastic environment. (This room is designed to engage the auditory, kinesthetic, and visual learners)
When we review a story, we need to go deeper to find what it means to us. That idea is the focus behind this room. This room is designed to go deeper into the story and find out what I can learn from the story. What does this story mean to me now? What can I learn and apply to my life today? Students are still engaged with creative, meaningful, and engaging tasks to aid in their learning and application while visiting this room.
Similar to the Recreation Station, Show Me the Knowledge is a Review Room; however, it strives to keep the kids active while helping them remember previous learning and not just what they are currently learning. This room is a spiral review of all that we have learned up to this point in our journey so that we don’t forget any lessons along the way!
The CHCM Theater is a place where we bring the Bible to life through skits and songs. We work to make sure the skits focus on a review of each unit we cover. The children get to be in the lesson and get to wear costumes and use props to help bring the lessons to life. Sometimes along with a skit there are songs that further help demonstrate the meaning of the lesson and we can teach the song in smaller groups so the children can learn them. Please come and join us in bringing the Bible to life.
